It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. – Every NFL head coach ever. Probably.
Lots of people start each new year with new goals. If they’re brand new, they get added to a likely enormous list of priorities and projects. There’s only so much you can take on, only so much brainspace capacity, before something falls by the wayside (it’s usually the new thing). To help make room for whatever new awesome you want in 2013, why not spend the rest of the year finishing what you started?
Finish that course you started. Finish the book you picked up months ago, but has been sitting on your nightstand as a makeshift coaster. Finish that one season of the TV show THAT’S SO AMAZING you need to know how it ends. Finish cleaning out your closet. Finish all those little tasks that would make you so much happier.
Remember, there’s only 31 days in December, so be as ambitious as you want, but make sure there’s some fun filled in.
It’s The Finish List. And here’s mine.
The Firestarter Sessions by Danielle LaPorte. This book is great if you feel stuck, sad, happy, content…pretty much everyone. Warning: The worksheets may or may not cause hot-mess level breakdowns and breakthroughs, so it’s best to work on them in solitude.
Ashley Ambirge’s Copywriting Course. I started this over the summer, and got stuck during the most important steps, go figure. I plan on using December to get unstuck, and to reach out to some local businesses to test out my copy.
Mad Men, Season Five. How dashing will Don Draper look? Will Megan Draper continue to make Megans everywhere proud? Even though I know what happens to Lane Price, I want to see it for myself. Five episodes to go.
Fix my car [UPDATE: DONESKI!] and my new watch. The ugly scrapes on my passenger side are getting fixed next week and I am absolutely giddy about it. The last time I had my car fixed though, I had a sort of terrible experience renting a car (I popped the front tire my first day driving it because there was construction), hoping for a better experience this time.
My snazzy new watch has too many links, so I just need to get them removed. Just one of those things I keep meaning to do but haven’t gotten around to yet.
Clear out my closet and make donations. File under “problems that are good to have”…a lot of my clothes are too big for me now. I’ve been meaning to go to the local consignment shop to see if they’ll take some of my nicer items, then just donate the rest. When I buy clothes now, I have one basic rule: If I don’t love it, I don’t buy it. I need to apply that to all the clothes I already have.
Recycle my old electronics.
I find that taking care of what needs to be taken care of, even on the smallest level, makes me feel so at peace and like a god-damned, has-her-sh*t-together adult. Even making this list makes me feel organized and ready for December to start, so I can start kicking its tail.
What’s on your Finish list for 2012?
