I am writing from glorious Los Angeles, where my vacation is starting to wind down. I’l recap it more at another time, because [long, drawn out, contented sigh] this place is incredible, you guys.
Back to the business at hand. It’s July, and 2013 has been really, really great to me. It’s the perfect time for a mid-year review, so I’ll be following the lead of Nicole as I recap my year so far.
I often ask myself what I ever did to deserve all that I’m blessed with, but there isn’t really an answer. I’ve learned to just accept and appreciate whatever comes my way.
MY EFF YEAH LIST (aka what I’ve accomplished)
Had two epic vacations to visit my best friends on the other side of the country.
Went to Vegas. Because Vegas.
Bought a bicycle.
Tried pole-dancing classes.
Completed a 5-day sugar detox.
Lived life from a place of abundance.
MY HELL YEAH LIST (aka what I’m proud of)
My promotion. For me, it’s a very rewarding feeling to be given more responsibility and trust at work. It’s not something I take lightly. I’ve been at ESPN a little more than two and a half years, and I feel like I’ve accomplished a fair amount, but I can’t wait to keep going and doing more of what I love.
Five days without sugar. This will get its own post in the near future, because it seriously changed the way I look at, eat and enjoy food. Five days without bread, fruit or added sugar forces you to be creative, sleep a lot, and endure things like unsweetened iced coffee (not as unfortunate as it sounds). Led by Nicole (who’s basically a ninja magician at being awesome), it was one of the best investments I’ve ever made in myself.
Abundance. Starting in late spring, when I looked in my closet and figured out what I wanted to buy for summer, I realized…I don’t really need anything right now. I looked at my bookshelf full of things I haven’t read, and my kitchen full of things I can cook, and my Netflix queue filled with stuff to watch…and I just felt so FULL. And I started doing awesome things with friends, and my brother got engaged to an amazing lady, and my sister booked her flight to Cape Cod, and I felt even more alive and just so…ahhhhh. Never in my life have I had such a feeling of I have everything I need right now.
LET’S GET AFTER IT (aka my priorities for the rest of the year)
My well-freaking-being. Going through five days without sugar, and coming out feeling tremendous on the other side, really amped up my desire to be as healthy and active as I can. For the rest of the summer, I want to bike, do yoga, and enjoy the outdoors. Also: COOK COOK COOK from my Pinterest board.
Finishing the following books and projects: The Firestarter Sessions, The $100 Startup, To Sell is Human, Quiet, Bossypants, The Willpower Council.
Learn as much as I can about Brad Stevens. BECAUSE BRAD STEVENS.
What’s the most awesome thing that’s happened to you in 2013?
