TGIF: Trout, Texts and Teddy Bears

My weekly attempt to highlight why sports are awesome for those that don’t find them so.

There are many times during work hours I get way more excited than I should. This was one of those moments. Words can’t do it justice, so just watch as Angels outfielder Mike Trout runs very far, jumps very high, then goes all GO GO GADGET ARMS to take away a home run.

When Trout made the catch, I made a Howard-Dean-esque “WHOAAAAYEAHHHHH” yell in the middle of the workplace, followed by the customary shout of “WEB GEM!” so our Baseball Tonight staff was aware.

I love everything about Mike Trout. Except for the fact that he’s 20, which means he’s FIVE YEARS YOUNGER THAN I AM. As a result, he occasionally makes me feel inadequate about my life. WHY AM I NOT THE BEST AT WHAT I DO YET.

Exquisitely written accounts from Wimbledon. The writer is there for the tennis, but his descriptions of adventures in London are strikingly accurate, and perfectly encapsulate what life is like there. I always found it so hard to describe, but he’s absolutely nailed it.

Here’s a big and scary linebacker pushing a man into a lake. Slow clap to whoever added the tremendous sound effects.

Some love exchanged via text between college buddies, now about to take Boston by storm. Former Syracuse football player Chandler Jones sent good wishes along to one of the newest Boston Celtics, Fab Melo. Best of luck, guys, and enjoy my city.

Presented without comment: Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones sleeping with a giant teddy bear. Wait…I take it back. One comment: AWWWWWW.

SPORTS ARE FUN, Y’ALL.
