Six Reasons I’m Okay with What Happened at the Super Bowl, aka Things I Tell Myself

1. The team’s motivation is going to be at an all-time high going into next season.

After completing a 13-3 season, winning 10 straight games and coming up four points short of winning it all, New England should come back hungry in 2012. I’m not counting on the two first and two second round draft picks (they’ll probably trade up or down and end up with just two of those four picks). I’m not counting on what happens in free agency (although Deion Branch and Wes Welker coming back would be huge). The veterans of this team will want to re-establish the greatness and the aura that comes with winning three titles in four years, and going to five Super Bowls in 11. I think this game will energize them to get some swag back. Continue reading

NFL C.A.S.E. of the Mondays: Week 10

Some really good games this week. There was also a coach cursing, a victory lap towards a special lady, tight end sass and some of the league’s biggest talkers having to eat some humble pie.

COOLER: Bills wide receiver David Nelson. Nelson scored Buffalo’s only touchdown in a 44-7 Dallas beatdown, but it was what he did after the score that caught everyone’s attention.

Totally adorable. Well done, sir. Continue reading

Quick Thoughts on Jets vs. Patriots

Some brief thoughts before I lose them in my sweet dreams…

GROOOOOOOOONK.

Mark Sanchez looked both really good and so-so.

I love how these teams hit each other. I didn’t see any dirty ones in this game.

I love how these teams hate each other. There’s just enough chippy-ness and mutual respect. It doesn’t get out of control.

I really like when players take a bow after touchdowns. I also enjoy when they give the game ball to their kids. Well done, Plaxico Burress.

Tom Brady looked more accurate in the 2nd half. Did it take him a while to find his rhythm? Did his long locks really have a mystical quality that disappeared when he cut it?

The Patriots defense looked better than they have in a while. Good coverage for the most part and two interceptions, plus they got pressure on Sanchez.

More to come with my NFL C.A.S.E. of the Mondays tomorrow evening.

NFL C.A.S.E. of the Tuesdays! Week 9

I’m sharing this with you all even though my team lost. Yeah, I’m just that awesome.

Cooler: Ball So Hard University, led by Chancellor T-Sizzle. The Baltimore Ravens get this week’s Cooler. For one, they beat the Steelers, which is always a wonderful thing. Two, the fourth quarter had its own redemptive storyline: wide receiver Torrey Smith, dropped a sure-fire go-ahead touchdown. Just four plays later, Joe Flacco launched another gorgeous pass, and this time, Smith made sure he caught it. Ball game. Continue reading

One of Those Rough Days

It’s really weird being a sports fan, sometimes. You have this extreme emotional attachment to a group of people you’ve likely never met. Your mood, attitude and demeanor can fluctuate with how your team performs. You can be on cloud nine or a hot mess, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Well, you can stop following your team. You can accept the idiocy of your passion, and focus on something more real. Like your family. Like your friends. Like your many blessings you don’t fully appreciate.

But who wants to do that? Not me. Judge me if you want, but I am grateful, lucky, and certifiably insane about my teams.

Today was one of those rough days. Continue reading
